Why should you consider coming to (or staying in) Ottawa to find a job?  Did you know that since 2010 Ottawa has been ranked by MoneySense as the best city in which to live, work and play?

Ottawa offers a number of benefits to job seekers that make it stand out from the Torontos, Montreals and Vancouvers of the country.  Granted there aren’t too many comparables to the big three but you get the gist.

In the MGIS database we have 750+ CVs.  I’m certain other companies have similar libraries of consultant resumes.

Nonetheless, when a job requirement comes in I can tell you that for me, and nearly all of my recruiting colleagues, those libraries will remain untouched.

Where do we all go to find the perfect consultant?  Why, LinkedIn of course!

It's almost mid-January.  Congrats, you survived the holidays mostly in one piece!

Now it's back to the consultant's reality of mining for your next piece of business.  Even if you are currently with a client, that March 31 date looms large over budgets, and we all know how that has been over the past year or so.

I believe this is why a large number of the CVs I receive from consultants are, to be blunt, terrible.

Truth be told, creating and updating a CV does not have to a painful exercise in self-reflection.  Especially in the Ottawa job market, your CV needs to tell the right story; it is not the paper incarnation of you.  It must be changed and tweaked to match each opportunity specifically.  Here are five quick tips to help make your CV Government of Canada ready.

How often is it that when you finally pick up the phone to talk to a Recruiter (who has called half a dozen times in past half hour) that they offer you a job that matches your experience perfectly, is long-term and almost doubles the per diem you are currently making.

Never?

Right, but that's not even the worst part...
